Description of the Solution

This is a Mass-Mailing PaaS On-Premises Connector, which integrates with Microsoft Exchange Server through a Transport Agent. It allows incompatible devices, such as those not capable of authenticating via Username and Password, those relying on IP-based authentication, and those reliant on Certificate Authentication or other mechanisms, to leverage public cloud email Mass-PaaS.

To provide this functionality, Microsoft Exchange acts as a bridge between devices or applications and the chosen Mass-Mailing PaaS. It intercepts messages during transport and re-routes them to the designated endpoint. This is, practically speaking, an implementation of what is commonly referred to as 'Conditional Routing'.

If Conditional Routing is not required and all messaging traffic must be relayed to a public cloud email PaaS (such as Azure Communication Services Email), then the Mass-Mailing PaaS On-Prem Connector may not be necessary. Instead, the solution can be implemented directly with Microsoft Exchange (or any other Mail Transport Server) by configuring the chosen Mass-Mailing PaaS as the downstream smart host on the MTA.
