This is a project created during the DubHacks 2020 Hackathon. GreenGen is used to recommend eco-friendlier products for online shoppers to reduce their carbon footprint. GreenGen is a live web application as well as an extension for Google Chrome, both with search capability.
The GreenGen extension automatically provides eco-friendly alternatives to products that online shoppers are looking at and provides the name, description, image and link of each alternative. The GreenGen web application allows users to search for greener products themselves through our well-developed database.
This web application implements a variety of technologies, including React.js on the frontend and MongoDB, Google Cloud Vision API, Google Cloud Server, node.js, and the MERN stack in the backend database. Our green product information is referenced from spot.ul.com, and we'reh oping to increase it's scope!
This article calculates the carbon footprint and acts to encourage users to switch to sustainable shopping.
