Cann't boot with Kernel 6.17.4

Describe the bug
Cann't boot with Kernel 6.17.4, getting the message Timed out waiting the udev queue being empty

How I run into the problem

1. Updated the System via the COSMIC Store a few days ago
2. Shutdown
3. Power on and boot up again
4. -> Pop-Os does not start due this error

Workarround
Holding down 'space' during BIOS phase, and selecting the old kernel (6.16.3) -> Pop-Os starts successfully.

Expected behavior
Pop-Os should start with the new kernel, or if this is not possible on some hardware should inform the user about the problem and let him select the old kernel.

I thought my laptop had run out of battery and damaged something. I did a clean installation and it worked but it was just updating that it gave problem again

Addendum: You can permanently set the old kernel as default if you select it with 'd' instead of 'enter' in the menu during boot.

same thing. Intel CPU with Nvidia graphics. latest kernel doesn't boot and reports a bunch of nvme timeout errors

This issue is also happening on 22.04 with Intel chipsets, and there are some similar reports of issues with 6.17.x kernels on mainline Ubuntu. I'm not sure if this is the right project to be opening tickets for Kernel issues anyway as the problem is not related to the DE it seems. But regardless, this issue seems to extend beyond the beta version of Pop!_OS, an possibly even beyond the Pop!_OS Distro itself.

Thank you for this information. I agree that this is possibly not the right project for kernel issues itself.

The other thing is that the problems with the new kernel arose because the system was updated via the COSMIC Store without any prior notification. The update only indicated that a certain number of "system packages" were involved. From the user's perspective, the update appeared successful, but upon the next restart—in my case, several days later—the system wouldn't boot. Inexperienced users, in particular, have absolutely no idea what the problem could be or what to do. Perhaps it would be better to highlight such critical updates in the Store; then at least users would have some indication of what to expect.
