Pop!_OS: Boot Freeze / Very Slow Boot After Kernel Update #395

Description

@hirezadehghani

After updating Pop!_OS, my notebook no longer wakes up correctly after suspension. The screen remains black and I can restart it with alt+magikkey+RESUB.

This issue right after a system update. Reverting to an older kernel (6.16.3-76061603-generic) resolves the issue completely.

System Information
Pop!_OS version: 22.04 LTS
Kernel version that fails: 6.17.4-76061704-generic
Kernel version that works: 6.16.3-76061603-generic
Graphics: dual GPU (integrated intel + nvidia)

Output of uname -a (on affected kernel):
Linux pop-os 6.17.4-76061704-generic

Steps to Reproduce
Boot into kernel 6.17.4-76061704-generic
Screen remains black a - was blinking and boot was freeze but keyboard input was working.

What I've Tried
1- systemd-analyze blame showed:
plymouth-quit-wait.service delaying boot.
Snap-related services slow.
NVIDIA-related services present.

2- Investigated Plymouth (boot splash)
Verified Plymouth is included in initramfs:
lsinitramfs /boot/initrd.img-$(uname -r) | grep plymouth

3-3. Checked installed kernels
Confirmed multiple kernels installed.
Only the old kernel boots normally.

  1. Verified NVIDIA driver installation
Confirmed all NVIDIA 580 packages were installed.
System is running in integrated (Intel-only) mode.

  2. Identified possible incorrect kernel–driver interaction
Hybrid GPU laptop using integrated mode may have conflicts with:
    NVIDIA DKMS modules
    New kernel version
    Plymouth renderer (framebuffer/DRM)

Please let me know if logs or further testing are needed. I'm happy to help.
