Greetings, I think I have done the following yet:

• cleanup pom.xml --> we use Gradle now
• apply https://github.com/google/google-java-format --> enforced by the Spotless Gradle plugin
• modernize unit tests utilizing MatcherAssert.asserThat --> use JUnit5

I will modernise the documentation now.
