Feature request - track border/labeling options

While I understand the simplicity of having track labels overlap data on the track, it would be nice if in addition to hiding the labels there was also an option to make the track labels have their own space in the track and optionally to justify left/right/center. For example:

Also, when you have many tracks using the same or similar glyphs it becomes difficult to distinguish between them visually. I would love to seen an option to decorate the tracks further. Some possible (hacked together) examples:

Oh...another option would be to generate a full bar for the reserved label area that would show/hide along with the label itself.
