Auto closes after import

Hello

Running through the tutorials on GSAS-II latest version. The program automatically closes after importing the prm file. Only visible error is prior to importing the data 'Import directory not found' but nothing after the prm is loaded, the GUI just closes.

• Which tutorial?
• What type of computer?
• Could you confirm that you have the latest version of GSAS-II installed?
• Are there any messages in the terminal window?

On Windows, GSAS-II installed via gsas2main (Python 3.13) was crashing immediately with no GUI (Event Viewer: KERNELBASE.dll, 0xc06d007f).

Solution: install GSAS-II via conda using gsas2pkg with Python 3.11.
Steps:
conda create -n gsasii311 python=3.11
conda activate gsasii311
conda install -c conda-forge -c briantoby gsas2pkg

After this, GSAS-II GUI runs normally.

@Seyoung-C Thanks for the info on this.

Just to confirm:

• After installing via conda, you also get the message GSAS-II: 5828/v5.6.5 posted 12-Jan-26 16:08 [d9dbfea]. If so, you are running the exact same code as before, but the versions of Python and probably more importantly the GUI package are different. OTOH, I wonder how reproducible this error may be and it could be that the crash only occurs sporadically.

• You are running the Garnet tutorial and the GUI disappears right after step 1.3 where you provide the instrument parameter file?

I will see if I can reproduce this myself in a Windows VM (I don't have a window machine myself). If not, I may have to take some guesses as to what might be causing the crash and may ask for help in testing.

Initially, I installed GSAS-II using the latest installer from the website (gsas2main, bundled with Python 3.13). With this setup, a native crash reproducibly occurred during the Garnet tutorial, right after step 1.3 when selecting the instrument parameter file.

On Windows, the GUI closed with no Python traceback, and the Event Viewer reported:
Faulting module: KERNELBASE.dll
Exception code: 0xc06d007f

During debugging, I also occasionally encountered:
“ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'wx'”.

Reinstalling GSAS-II via conda with Python 3.11 (gsas2pkg) resolves the issue completely — the GUI runs normally and the Garnet tutorial no longer crashes.
